1.  The first way to capture  a full screen shot is using the Command-Shift-3 , this will actually take a screenshot of your entire desktop and will automatically save to your desktop as a png.file remember Command-Shift-3

2.  There will be on some occasions that you will require to copy your entire desktop , again this is a simple procedure of the following , Command – Control – Shift – 3, this will automatically be saved to your clipboard , which will allow you to copy or save into any folder that you want.

3. If you are wanting to only capture certain areas of your desktop this can be achieved by the following commands , Command – Shift – 4, now you will see a set of cross hairs appear on your desktop , drag the cross hairs around the area that you would like captured and release the mouse button , this will automatically save it to your desktop a png.file.

4.  You can also use the Apple utility that is supplied , GRAB , this is located under Applications – Utilities  Folder , this is mainly used if you are wanting to save your screen shot in a TIFF format. It is simple to use and very easy on resources . Once you have started the GRAB application you will have several modes that you can capture , Window-Screen or Timed Screen. If you choose the selection mode it basically allows you to grap certain areas of the screen by moving and draging the mouse.

5.  A neat feature is the Timed Screen which basically when selected allows you to setup your screen and will capture the screen in approximately 10 seconds, this allows you to open folders, applications and sub folders. A great way of having your desktop fully prepared.
